This lot comes from the women producers of Idjwi Island who are members of the coop Rebuild Women's Hope, founded in 2013 by Marcelline Budza. In the DRC coffee was long considered a man’s crop, women were often denied land and income from their own harvests. RWH helps its members farm, earn, and control their own money. That income goes directly to their families and villages. It's the group's mission “to give women back their voice by placing them at the center of all integral development, in particular, economic empowerment and autonomy. We believe that income controlled by women has a significant impact on the life of the family, including the development and well-being of the community.”
